Greg,

While New Orleans papers were full of casualty lists, I suggest you also try the Confederate Land Grants Applcations. Louisiana's are housed in the State Archives in Baton Rouge. Many men who ceased to have information in their service records after April of 1862, show up here. Their widows applied and, most of the time, recieved land from the state for their husband's service.
