Does anyone have any information on the length of basic C.S.A. training for the normal person in the army? Also when you are promoted from enlisted to 2nd LT, was there any Officer training? I have a relative, Barney Sears, enlisted in the 19th LA regimnet on 13 Feb 1862. Two months later his unit was at Shiloh and I haven't found any muster roll showing him there. Later that year he was promoted to 2nd Lt Jr. ( not sure what that was) and later to 2nd Lt. Just trining to nail down some details. Any help out there?
