27th LA Uniformity

Nic,

Below is exactly what you were looking for as far as the 27th Louisiana's uniformity is concerned. It is from the late Allan Richard and Mary Margaret Richard's book, "The DFefense of Vicksburg: A Louisiana Chronicle"

Granville Alspaugh writes from Camp Moore in March "We will get our uniforms next week and caps"

Isaac Hall writes his wife from Camp Moore in March "Mary, I send this letter home with Mr. J. E. Talton. He will remain at home about 12 days and you can have some shoes made in that time. I will soon be barefooted and you cannot buy a pair of shoes for less than ten dollars."

John Hall writes again from Camp Moore in April "My feet have been very sore but are getting better. ...picked up some old shoes and half soled my shoes already."

John Hall writes Camp Moore on March 26, 1862 "We have decided to vote for our uniform, it will be the same as the pants Martha gave me, trimmed with dark, brass button frock coat, made after the fashion of 'R', cost $21.00. Cape will be fitted for $3.00 or $4.00, so you see half of our commutation money will be expended."

On April 19, 1862 John Hall wrote, "Some of our men fooled about and bought the uniform, Wharton at the head, entirely unfit for the season of the year, and once wet look like a man had been drunk and puked on it, frock coat cost $20.00, cap $1.85.
