The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Silver metal found O.S. Penney

I'm quite certain that this item belonged to my great-grandfather, Oren Samuel Penny of the 27th LA Infantry. The only Civil War information I have on him is that he was a Medical Clerk, and came out as a Sergeant Major. He was involved in the Battle of Vicksburg. The tag probably reached its destination to OK by way of a visit to his eldest son, Oren Samuel Penny, Jr., as the 1900 Census shows them living in the same household where Jr. worked as a plumber/electrician in So. McAlister, OK. O.S. Sr. is buried in Springville Cemetery, Coushatta LA, stating both his rank and unit attachment. Please contact me.
