Marcia,

Took me a little while to get permission from the man who gave me the list, but here's what I've got.

F. Hardee, Co. H
Cpl. Thomas Hardy, Co. K (possibly Thomas Handy), captured at Mansfield, died 9/18/64
Pvt. John T. Porter, Co. E, captured Mansfield, died 9/20/64
Pvt. Charley Smith, Co. A, captured Mansfield, died 9/18/64

These men were all in prison at Camp Ford, Tyler, Texas, died there, and are now buried in the Alexandria National Cemetery in Pineville, La. I got this information from Randal Gilbert of Tyler, Texas, who has a list of 34 other 23rd Wisconsin men who were prisoners there. You are welcome to contact him for the information on those men. I just have the list of those buried at Pineville. Contact me for his e-mail address, you can find my contact info on the Friends of Fort DeRussy website.

Please be aware that death and cemetery records are notoriously sloppy and confusing. Hardee and Handy may be the same man. Or maybe not.
