While Albert's book is a good reference it is dated. Warren Tice's "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776 - 1865" has taken up where Albert left off adding new specimens and deleting buttons that have been proven to be either post War or not military. Unfortunately the star and crescent button is not listed in Tice.
