Applewhite Ancestry Research

WOW!! Just found out about your site today. It came highly recommended. Hope you can help me find some kinfolk. I know a little but would really like to know when, where and how they died:
1. John C. Applewhite born 1832. I believe he served in the 12th Mississippi Infantry company H (also listed as company K. Wife Emilie C. I have three transcribed letters, the first dated July 28, 1863 from Culpepper Court House VA. This letter discribes three days of fighting at Gettysburg, Penn. The second letter is dated August 7, 1863 with more description of Gettysburg. The third letter is dated August 3, 1864 from Petersburg VA. It describes fighting there including a repord of dead and wounded. He mentions black troops charging and yelling "no quarter" The date of death I have is just three weeks later, August 21, 1864. My estimates put that at the Battle of Reames Station, but I could be very wrong. Some family members think he was captured. Not sure if his widow filed for pension.
The next two are brothers-in-law, Dempsey Applewhite b. 1834 and William F. Brown b 1832. Both enlisted on May 11, 1862 in Monroe Lousiana in the 28th Infantry (Grays)Company D (Claiborne Invincibles. Wm. F. Brown survived the war and was stationed as a surgeon's assistant in Bossier Parish. Dempsey's date of death is listed as "before November 18,1862. I suspect he died of disease at Milliken's Bend, but again, I could be wrong. His wife applied for pension under the name of Susan Scott Palmore (maybe spelled Palmer).Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Donald Kimbell
