Carroll's Mill

James,

I'm wondering, since you seem to have an interest in Carroll's Mill and know of the Connells, if you can help me clarify a little history.

In a letter that my GGGrandfather wrote to his wife the day before the Battle of Mansfield he wrote, "I understand that Green's Cavalry have been camped at Roberson's Mill and at Ten Mile Bayou ever since I left, and understand that they took all of Lissia Carroll's corn..."

First of all my gggrandparents lived at Ten Mile Bayou, on the opposite side of the road from Carroll's Mill. Do you know what the Roberson's Mill is that he referred to? Could this have been another name for Carroll's Mill?

Also, the letter has always been translated as saying Lissia Carroll, but as I examine it closely, it appears to me to read Connell. Do you have any records of a Lissia Connell or Carroll?
