Re: Calloway County 200th Anniversary Skirmish

This is exactly the skirmish I was looking for! Maybe you can answer a question I have about it. In his after-action report

Lieut. Col. John Miller commanding the 1st Mississippi Cavalry Battalion says "I took on yesterday two battalions, Hill's and Herndon's, and proceeded to that neighborhood..."

Now does Miller actually mean "Hill's and Herndon's companies" rather than battalions? Because he himself was a battalion commander so wouldn't it make more sense if he meant two of his companies rather than two entirely different battalions?

Also do you know what Union unit or units were involved in the skirmish?

Many thanks in advance.
