Major Jordan had this to say about the citizens of Tompkinsville:
'The citizens almost to a man were loyal, and I was enabled to obtain information of the movements of the enemy with less difficulty than in almost any other part of Kentucky. Indeed, it was the most loyal community I ever was among in any part of the South."
