The only J. H. Lewis I can locate in one of General Forrest's two brigade (which would have been at Franklin) served in Co. "C", Woodward's 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. He enlisted at Williamsport TN. There is no record of him after May 10, 1863.

The Federal leader in this action was General Gordon Granger.
