Rusty, You and others may be interested in a more recent work by Daniel S. Rush and E. Gale Pewitt, "The St. Albans Raiders: An Investigation into the Identities of the Confederate Soldiers Who Attacked St. Albans, Vermont, on October 19, 1864," published as part of the series, "The Papers of the Blue & Gray Education Society," No. 19, Summer 2008 (96pp., softback). Appears to me to be a pretty solid piece of research, with excellent illustrations and portraits. Hope it corrects all of the snags and errors of the past you've noted.
