Jesse M. Hawthorn was a private in Co. E, 6th Kansas Cavalry. The roster shows him as age 34, a wagon maker, enlisted 9/30/1861 at Ft Scott. The Kansas index cards show his middle initial as "W" but his pension cards show it as "M".
