Yes, that sounds strange. But go to the Library of Congress newspaper site,
Chronicling America (just google Chronicling America) and type in
Fort Gibson rations. You will find eight newspapers. The last one, The
Washington Evening Star, for 1868, has the request for bids for the
disinterment of Union remains and transfer to the newly established
Fort Gibson National Cemetery, The sites are listed, along with number
of bodies and the distance from Fort Gibson. Some of these sites,
including several outside of the Indian Territory, I have never heard of.
