Sand Town

I have read numerous posts of which mention Sandtown and the Civil War and also later references in replys. I want to question the use of the word Sandtown as opposed to Sand Town. The Old Settler Creek Payroll of 1857 lists Sand Town along with other tribal groups with town added to the name not as a part of the name. The 1857 Creek payroll lists Sand, and 1859 Creek Payroll lists Sand Town. My understanding is that Sand was named after Chief Sands. I think this would be important to verify the spelling since it was a Creek town. Sand Town was not listed on the 1882 Creek Census, but appeared on an 1888 Indian Territory map which is in the Brawley Collection at University of Ok. Sand Town should not be confused with Sandtown the African-American town that was located by Oklahoma City.
