Fort Gibson

My ancestor was Samuel Riley Brady who according to family tradition had a trading post and a ferry around the point of the Verdigris , Grand and Arkansas. He also was killed in 1851 bringing a confederate gold shipment up the river. Not sure which river or the actual date but I was thinking it had to have been in the late spring or early summer of either 1851 or 52. He was notified that there were robbers ahead and supposely hid the gold in a old well near the river. He was a slave owner and did join the confederate side. His name was also spelled Bradley and he was a member of the Creek Infantry. He ran a flat bottom steam boat. I have tried to verify this story but it was given on a Guion Miller application. He was an old settler Cherokee. His wife was one that went to Kansas, but not sure if they were together when he was murdered. His name was mentioned in the Fort Gibson letters in 1859 so we are sure he was there. Any ideas for research? I tried the OHS just looking for him but no luck.
