Re: Elijah Lake, 1st Choctaw Mounted Rifles

Oooops!, I found him, unfortunatlely it doesn't provide much information.

Elijah Lake, Private, Captain Edmond Gardner's Company, 1st Regiment Choctaw Mounted Rifles (Also known as Cavalry)*, his file contains one card which reads, His Name appears on a Pay Roll of the men of the organization named above, for commutation for clothing for the first six months of the year beginning _______ 20, 1862. Roll not dated. Commutation for clothing 25 dollars for six months.

* This company was also known as Company J, and as Company K, 1st Regiment Choctaw Mounted Rifles

This one card appears to be all that survived to be recorded for the men of this regiment. There is one other card for Lt. J. S. Tooly which is a "Petition to the Secretary of War from Officers of the Indian Regiments in the service of the Confederate States, requesting that Col. Sampson Folsom of the 1st Choctaw Regiment be appointed Brig. Gen. in the P. A. C. S." Petition dated Fort McCulloch, June 21, 1862.
