Bloomfield Academy was the first school built primarily for girls in the Chickasaw Nation I.T., near Achille, Panola Co (now Bryan Co OK). In 1852 Methodist Rev. John Harpole Carr (left), brother to Martha Brown Carr Hamill, helped build then became the first director of the Bloomfield Seminary. Carr and his family, including the Hamills, left Indian Territory to escape the lawlessness during the Civil War, then Carr died in Paris, Lamar Co TX. per Gibson’s THE CHICKASAWs, p235. Sent by Jessie Hamill Fondy of Chickasha OK.
.
Ft Arbuckle, Pickens County, Chickasha Nation IT (now Garvin Co OK). In the 1860 census, both Rev. Hamill and Rev. Carr are listed in Panola District with Ft Arbuckle Post Office, which had been in the Wichita County of the Chickasaw Nation before 1855. ... 1860 Ft Arbuckle P.O., Panola Dist, Chickasaw Nation, I.T. cen (now Garvin Co OK), Aug 10, 40-40 John Hamill 50 SC, Methodist minister, Martha [Carr] 43 TN ... as well as Rev. John Harpole Carr ... Ft Arbuckle was in Wichita County before 1855, i.e., the Chickasaw Nation was vaguely divided into Panola, Wichita, Perry, and Caddo Counties. But after the Chickasaws set up their own government in 1855 with Tishomingo as the capital, and established newly named counties, old names were still being used. In 1860 Ft Arbuckle would have been in Pickens Co, Chickasaw Nation I.T (now Garvin Co OK). (see 1837-1855 Chickasaw Nation map)
.
This Rev. Robert Hamill m-Martha Carr, sis to Rev. J.H. Carr.
.
You may be interested in a letter (ca. Mar 1, 1863) on that webpage that Hamill wrote for Winchester Colbert to Col. James Bourland.
.
In Don Martini's WHO WAS WHO AMONG THE SOUTHERN INDIANS, A GENEALOGICAL NOTEBOOK, 1698-1907, there are:

1) one Cochran, Nathan Cochran, b-1811, white resident among the Chickasaws, emigrated west with the tribe.
.
2) three Cochnauers, David, Douglas, and Nicholas
.
3) 38 Carrs, All were "Creeks" save one Choctaw and one white. Let me know if you want names, etc.
.
I'll look in several other books.
.
The Rev. R.H. Carr and Rev. John Hamill are found in my Griffith family history. And yes, I have photos of these families.
