My recollection is that the companies that went awol were "wild Indians" that Blunt was glad to be rid of and took the opportunity to muster them out. The timing was right as Drew's Regiment was defecting en masse about the same time and filled up the 2nd and created the 3rd IHG. I beleive the source is Wiley Britton and/or Annie Abel.
