Ken, in a way I found the answer to my own question. The story of Dick Spaniard is found in the writings of Dr. Emmett Starr (1870-1930)who was a Cherokee historian & wrote several books about tribal history & genealogy. The story is in one of his books, minus the Castillo/Casto part. I would still like to know more about the fellow. Thanks for your help.
