This guy seems like he was slippery. I know that my great-grandfather (his son Jefferson Davis Smith) moved around a lot and was not easy to pin down, so his father may have been the same kind of guy. With my uncle's information, I'm thinking that 1880 Census B. F. Smith in Bartow County is probably him. I know that he willed the family farm to his wife. Maybe I'll find a will record someday.
