Colonel Shorter lived in Rome, GA and helped start the Women's Seminary here. I have found papers from before he moved to Rome and after the WBTS; I have found nothing during that time frame. My question is how did he get to be a Colonel? He was too old to be active in the fighting but could have been a militia commander; or was it an honorary title? I have had no luck getting information at Shorter College, if anyone knows I would appreciate a reply.
