The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: 6 GA KIAs, High or Low?
In Response To: Re: High or Low? ()

The incomplete casualty reports for Forrest's corps at Chickamauga suggests that 1/4th, or 25%, casualties were sustained, though most of the records for the operations of those involved regiments during September & October, 1863, were lost during Wheeler's raid or destroyed just before Atlanta surrendered, per my viewing of the CSR microfilm. From the best I can reconstruct, Davidson's brigade was about 650 "men" strong at the onset of Chickamauga, and that is the reason I feel that 6 deaths in one regiment is an incomplete listing. I have posted the 10 deaths that I have documented to have occured in the 6th Georgia Cavalry at Chickamauga and have sent a copy to all who were interested enough to reply. I would be grateful to hear of any other cavalry deaths at Chickamauga, either north or south, because the names I have been able to compile tally over 150 men short on both sides (contrasted with the corps reports). Thank you. Joe
