Re: 16th Infantry - "Danielsville Guard"

I am a new researcher to the Civil War and have only recently discovered my GGGrandfather James W. Brooks who served in the 16th Georgia Infantry Company D from Jan 1862 to May 1864. I have his service record which indicates an illness which he suffered from the summer of 1862 to Sept 1863. I don't know what it was. Does anyone have any ideas? How many others were sick for such a long period? He was wounded on the 6th of May 1864 at the battle of the Wilderness but survived the war. He was born and lived his life in Madison County GA.

I would appreciate any bit of information on the history of the 16th (any Company). Especially if there were any pictures.

Thanks
Wiley Brooks
