To my knowledge, Wheeler's forces would have been at least 75-100 miles from Kingstree-Williamsburg District. His forces, pretty well dispersed, were skirmishing before the Federal advance after the Federals left Columbia. The axis of the Federal advance was nothward to Winsboro, then northeast through Great Falls to Lancaster, then eastward through Chesterfield District to Cheraw, then into North Carolina. In April a Federal marauding expedition from Georgetown passed through Williamsburg District, but it was opposed only by reserve and militia forces, and precious few of them. By then Wheeler's forces were in the area of Hillsboro in North Carolina. If any of Wheeler's men got to Willaismburg District, they would have been in deserter status. He had no South Carolian units in his command.
