In Response To: 39th Ga Volunteers Infantry ()

Ms. Poag,

Madison Morris did little more than initially join the 39th Georgia. The company formed on 04 MAR 1862 in Gilmer County, Georgia not Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company then went to its camp of instruction for a brief period of time in Camp McDonald (around 28 MAR 1862). I do not show a record of him making it this far after the muster. The men that reported to the camp of instruction were given a $50.00 bounty payment. There is no record that he received this payment or had any service after the initial formation in Gilmer County.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,
