Thanks for the information! As mentioned in an earlier post, these were accepted for a limited term -- in this case, sixty days. Their term would have expired prior to Feb. 7, 1865. Based on General Order 30, officers were expected to use this opportunity to comb out all the deserters and men eligible for military service in regular Confederate organizations.
