In Response To: Sgt. Travis R. Maxey ()

Dan,

Per his service records, Travis R. Maxey was killed @ Gettysburg, PA in July 1863. A claim for his
effects was filed in January 1864 by M.T. Davis, the administrator of his estate. In 1860 T.R. Maxey
was 34 years old (b.ca.1826); a merchant in Oglethorpe County, GA, where he enlisted.

The Athens Southern Banner of 7/15/1863, p.2, has a casualty list for Company K, 8th Georgia Infantry,
and lists Sergeant Maxey among the killed.

If a photo of Maxey exists, you ought to locate others researching this family. If you are not familiar with
it, you may want to consult the 1980 book -"The Maxey's of Virginia" by Edythe Maxey Clark for possible
leads. The state archives in Morrow; and the Athens-Clarke Public library have copies. I'd also do some
free postings on the Maxey surname message board on RootsWeb and Ancestry.com, in hopes of attracting
others researching the Maxey family. A very distant cousin might have what you are seeking.

I wish you the best with your pursuit.

Best Regards,

Greg
