In Response To: Dyer's Battalion ()

Roy,

If you use the search facility at the top of the page and use "Dyer" as the search term you will find a couple of old posts of mine that contain snippets about Dyer's Battalion.

According to my notes (admittedly incomplete...) Dyer (Alfred A?) is stated to have authority to raise a regiment or battalion for Glenn’s Cavalry Brigade in the Southern Banner for the 19 October 1864. Mentioned as recruiting companies in the Southern Watchman for the 2nd November 1864. Organization apparently completed by December 1864 although only 89 men present for duty.
Co. ? - Capt. Carroll.
The Georgia Genealogical Society Quarterly (Vol. 31, No. 3, pp 146-156) has some records of late war units. One of which is a reference to a W. B. Dyer’s Battalion of Gwinnett County. This may be the same unit.

Hope this helps,

Phil
