A correspondent of the Petersburg Express, giving an account of the engagement at Sewell's Point, says:

The coolness and bravery of a young Georgian, about seventeen years of age, a member of the Columbus Light Guards, ought not to be passed over in silence. Something needing attention at the muzzle of one of the guns, then in position pointing through the embrasures, the little fellow, with the coolness and deliberation of a veteran, in the face of the shot and shell which were being poured upon the battery, walked out upon the gun, put in order what was wrong, and returned as coolly and deliberately as he went out. I regret being unable to record the name of one so brave.

The Daily Dispatch (Richmond, VA) 25 May 1861
