Re: 8th Georgia's Miller Rifles (Co. E)

George,

Thanks for responding. I have those articles, but what I am trying to determine is whether the Floyd Cavalry was renamed the Miller Rifles by Captain John Towers when he and the men decided to change the character of the company from cavalry to infantry or did the Floyd Cavalry fold and Towers form a new company. The articles I have from the Rome Weekly Courier and the Rome Tri-Weekly Courier are not clear on that point. That is the case that is made in the book Scythe of Fire, see page 6 [i.e., "Now he simply reorganized the rustic horsemen as a company of infantry, for which the prospects of state acceptance were much better." Is this a conclusion or is it a supportable fact by a primary source?

Looking forward to your reply.

Respectfully,
Henry
