8th Georgia's Miller Rifles (Co. E)

I am working on a study of this regiment and have encountered an issue concerning when and by whom the Miller Rifles was organized. On one hand I have that the company was first organized as the Floyd Cavalry by W. S. Cothran. I have some period newspaper articles that attest that that, but he apparently resigns at some date and is replaced by John Towers sometime in 1860. When Towers learns that Governor Brown is not accepting cavalry, the company changes to infantry and also changes its name to the Miller Rifles.

Another version states that John Towers organized the company and that it was always the Miller Rifles.

Can any provide information (with detailed sources) that describes if the Floyd Cavalry and the Miller Rifles are in fact the same company?
