I joined local chapter of SCV's. There are two chapters locally. Big Hoo Ha over Confederate Flag flying at the camp. I joined because so many ancestors were confederates. This is in Florida but I had an ancestor who got bounty land in Georgia for fighting in Seminole War of 1837-8. Not that much went on in Florida but everyone is from some place else anyway. I am not a fan of slavery, nor do I really believe in nobility of the Lost Cause. It is the history and sacrifice I believe in for my ancestors. They did not even own slaves since they were just small farmers with little cash.
