Thanks, George. Our local SCV's has a huge Confederate Battle Flag that can be seen from I-75. Lots of nasty debate on this. I suggest he fly the original Confederate Flag. No one would recognize and all the heat would got out of this issue. What gets me is that only 6% of southerners owned a single slave and a much lower % owned more that 50 slaves. To own 50 slaves or more would mean the person would need to own a few thousands acres of fertile land where he could grown cotton or maybe tobacco which were the cash crops. None of us modern people believe in slavery, but we are not living in 1860. The North benefited greatly from the cotton trade, and they knew cotton required slaves to make it work economically. When the Founders created, approved and signed the Constitution and Bill of Rights they knew slavery contradicted both Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. They all knew that slavery was a knife pointed at the heart of our new nation where all were created equal with right to freedom, Liberty and pursuit of happiness. This only included white men of property and excluded most of the population including women and all those who were not "property owners". The level of hypocrisy is what gripes me.
