James Flanigan was detailed as a shoemaker to Columbus, Ga. due to his hearing loss as I have been told, and the record shows he was detailed. He was in the 16th from 1861 to the end of the war. His health was wrecked and so was his brother's. I was told he lost his hearing due to sleeping on the ground. Probably he got an illness or went deaf from loud noise but I don't know that since it is all in the misty past and he has been dead for 85 years.
