The Cherokee Springs and Catoosa Springs hospitals were evacuated on September 7, 1863 and moved south. Remember these were General Hospitals and not field hospitals.
Most of the remains of soldiers that were identifiable were either removed by the families during the war or after the war. Again, remember that the operational tempo at a General Hospital is slightly slower than of a field hospital. Depending on the disposition of a soldiers case he was often either moved further south to convalescence or sent home if it was going to be an extended period of time (I have seen 60+ days) for the soldier to recover.
