This may come a little late but I've been working on a project involving the men who served from Gwinnett. I was recently made aware of the 38th TN and have been researching them. The men - about 120 of them - from Gwinnett, Jackson, and Walton enlisted late August~Sept 8 at Midway Church near Auburn (now Barrow County). I have yet to learn the details about the train however the nearest station would have been at Covington. I, also, have not found Valentine in the 1850 or 1860 censuses.
