Re: Dearing's/Young's Cav Brigades Summer 1864

There’s a document in the compiled service record of one of my ancestors, Thomas Jordan Dunahoo (correct spelling is Dunnahoo) of Cobb's Legion Cavalry Battalion, signed by Col. G. J. Wight as commanding officer of Young’s Cavalry Brigade and dated July 24, 1864. Lt. Col. B. S. King also signed this document as commanding officer of Cobb's Legion Cavalry on July 23, 1864. The document was written near Stony Creek Station.

To my knowledge, Cobb's Legion Cavalry never changed its designation to the 9th Georgia Cavalry Regiment and I don't believe the Jeff Davis Legion ever became a regiment either, or at least they never changed their designation to a regiment. According to information on page 1 of the Unit Information microfilm for the 10th Georgia Cavalry Regiment and also in the compiled service records of some of its members, the 10th was organized on November 3, 1864.
