Barry, Odd I read pretty much the same account in a Early County newspaper dated in September 1863. Early indications are that it's just a story as there were only a handful of Michigan regiment assigned to Union General Van Cleve at Chickamauga. The drummer boys in the regiments I looked at appeared to be accounted for. Not saying the story is not true but I have not been able to verify it as of yet.
