Company C, Cook's Battalion, Mell's Regiment"

Hello-

I've got my gg grandmother's application to the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her father, Lemuel Jewell Edwards 1848-1916, lived in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. According to her application, he enlisted the "day before his sixteenth birthday. (This would have been September 21, 1864) At the time of surrender he was near Raleigh, North Carolina transporting Yankee prisoners. He participated in three battles." She listed his regiment as "Company C, Cook's Battalion, Mell's Regiment"

She has a veteran's signature from what appears to be "H R Palmer." He listed his regiment as "Company D, Cook's Battalion, Mell's Regiment, Cumming's Command."

I think they're referring to Philip Cook, Patrick Mell, and Alfred Cumming.

I'm trying to figure out more information on my ggg grandfather's unit. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Kelly James
