Camp Iverson was originally located in Chatham County Georgia five miles below Cherokee Hill, near the railroad. On December 1, 1861 it was moved to Cherokee Hill, eight miles above Savannah. A letter references the location as being on the Charleston & Savannah RR and about midway between the Savannah River and the central RR.
