Alan: OK. Thanks for the info. If I can come to a credible determination as to which Reserve general did the best job, I'll declare a winner. The manuscript is nearing completion and the NC Archives folks are interested in taking a look at it. If they like it and have the money, they'll print it. The tenative title is, "The Confederacy's Forgotton General: Theophilus Hunter Holmes"
Whichever general and whatever state I say won, historians in the other three states will clobber me. But Like Holmes, himself, said before the battle of Helena, Arkansas, "I'm willing to bear the odium."
