I only have a photo of the marker and the photo cut the top of the marker off, so I couldn't tell the shape. I think you are probably correct. From what I can see, it just doesn't have the appearance of a typical Confederate marker. Of course I have seen all kinds of mistakes made on VA markers. I found one that was a Federal marker (round top and shield) but it was for Confederate veteran and had his CSA unit on it.

That's the first I've heard of the reason for the point on the Confederate markers! I'll have to remember that.
