Its been a while since I looked into it, but his owner was a home guard captain and was ironically murdered by a so called confederate guerilla, named Jack Colquitt, a deserter from the 11th Texas Cavalry. I found this in The Heritage of Polk County. Of note, another slave of Pryor's was killed by Colquitt.
