Actually, Capt. William L. Marler was the commanding officer of company E, which was from Jackson County, GA. I believe Lt. Haynie was the commanding officer of a detachment made up of men from company E when he was captured at Fisher's Hill. Captain Marler was the commanding officer of company E throughout the war, but as far as I know, he was never with any of his company's detachments in Virginia.
