For the most part, the paroles granted at Augusta appear to have been for men whose homes were near to Augusta. My research has focused on the Hmapton Legion Infantry/Mounted Infantry. That unit was posted east of Richmond until the fall of the capital on 3 Apr 65. Much of the unit was paroled at Appomattox, but a sizable contingent cut its way out as an escort for the reserve artillery on the evening of April 8, and others got out individually or in small groups on April 9. Many other men were home on authorized furloughs to obtain remounts. The following men with, or formerly with that unit, were paroled at Augusta, per their files in the Compiled Service Records:
