Re: Where is Hawkinsville?

I'm arriving late to this thread but, having grown up living about 2 miles from the towns in question, I'd like to clear up a couple of incorrect items. Crows Bluff is/was on the East side of the St. Johns River. There is now a marina on the location. Hiway 44 used to cross the river where the marina now stands. Looking at Google earth you will be able to see the old alignment on the West side of the river. It was a favorite fishing spot back in the 1960's now private property and inaccessible. St Francis was a couple miles north on the West side of the river and I recall seeing old foundations there as late as the 60's. All gone now. Hawkinsville was about a mile South of Crows Bluff on the West side of the river and was the Western terminus of the Hawkinsville and Florida Southern Railway. It's now a rural residential area accessed by Hawkinsville Rd about a mile West of the river on Hiway 44. For many years an old steam locomotive sat rusting there. When Six Gun Territory was built in Ocala in the 60's, the company bought the locomotive and it became the 'display' engine on the park's entrance sign.
