Death of John C. Watson 7th Florida

“Private Joshua Watson, Company C 7th Florida, age 40: was admitted March 22, 1864. He had been sick for some time and was much debilitated: his skin hot, tongue dry, teeth covered with sordes, pulse quick and small, countenance dull, expression vacant: there was tenderness and gurgling in the right iliac region. On the 25th he was suddenly attacked with symptoms of acute laryngitis, resulting in death the same day. Post-mortem examination: The glottis and surrounding part were swollen, apparently from fibrinous exudation beneath the mucous membrane. The patches of Peyer were thickened and ulcerated. Assistant Surgeon M. K. Gleason, Rock Island Hospital, Illinois.”

Compiled Military Service Records indicated he was taken POW at Missionary Ridge on November 25, 1863 during the Chattanooga Campaign.
