While researching my younger brother's birth place for my family genealogy project, I came across this site. I have found the postings very interesting and I thought I would add my two-cents to the conversation.

In 1936, my maternal grand parents moved from a farm in Lafayette County, Florida to Crow's Bluff and lived in the Wilson Cypress Companies "River Camp" at Crow's Bluff. My Grandfather operated a "Brownie Loader" and would take the cypress logs off of a train that brought them there and place them into the St. John's River. You could see the "Brownie" and the work that was going on from my grand parents back door. I can remember going to visit, and can remember the smell of the steam and burning coal from the "Brownie". I loved that scent! :b

One of my younger brothers was born in my grand parents home there in 1939 and his birth certificate lists the follows:

DOB 5 Mar 1939
Place of Birth: County: Lake: Precinct: Casia, in the Wison Cypress Camp, Hawkinsville, Florida

In March, 1942, my sister was also born in the same house as my brother.

In 1943, the Wilson Cypress Camp closed and my Grand Parents moved to another logging camp located near Dade City, Pasco, Florida.

I have many, many fond memories of this place and have enjoyed reading the posts of others on this subject.
