Possible Racial Atrocity

I'd like to bring the attention of this group to a possible wartime atrocity that occurred near McGirt's Creek shortly before the war ended. The account appears in Mamie Yeary's book, Reminiscences of the Boys in Gray on pages 677.

David Shelton Sessions of Co. I, 2nd Florida Cavalry states that Lt. Ellis and Charley Bailey of his company were ambushed by Black soldiers and killed near McGirt's Creek near Jacksonville and that Capt. Dickerson [Dickison?] captured and hanged the Black soldiers.

Perhaps a devoteee of Florida's Civil War can give me more details concerning these incidents.

Here is the link to Yeary's book and the account of this fight.
